Last night, we did get out for gelato, and a light dinner.
This morning, we all awoke famished. We went out for breakfast.. And after breakfast, we crossed the street for second breakfast. And then we picked up sandwiches for lunch. We are turning into hobbits.
The trail from Corniglia to Vernazza starts right outside the town of Corniglia. Just as we were heading down the trail, a pack of hunters and their dogs came up the trail pulling a dead boar. We had seen signs about closing gates on farms to keep boar out. But these guys had caught one and pulled it up the trail. Judging by the bloodstains we saw, for about half the trail. Maybe that’s how they tenderize boar?
Anyway, the trail began through tall stone walls
There were still a lot of steps, but the elevation changes were much less than day 1 or 2. However, many more rockslides in this area:
Today’s hike was more remote. Fewer grape vines and olive orchards. Crazy beautiful views. Goodbye Corniglia:
The wind was really stirring up the sea today.
The hike was only a km or so, and we soon descended into Vernazza
The roar of the sea was deafening.
We checked into our airbnb, and went to explore the town
When given a chance to try basil gelato- I had to give it a shot…its really good
We ended up at the harbour, watching the waves fly over the break wall.
Outside eating was closed today:
For good reasons:
I got a wet shoe from one if these.
K got this shot. See the 2 people on the breakwall? They were pretty wet:
The views from the castle were awesome.
We did some shopping, and then the kids played in the sand, and we had drinks and watched the waves.
One of the shop owners recommended a restaurant, and then called the owners to get us a reservation for tomorrow. Can I tell you how great and friendly everyone is?
After a huge dinner, we called it a night. Big hike to Montorosso tomorrow for K’s birthday!
